Nissan 200SX S14/14a - How to fix your broken blower!

Symptom - Internal blower/fan only works in position 4

Solution:

  1. Push your passenger seat right back, and recline the seat until it its almost touching the back seat.

  2. Get onto the seat, with your feet resting on or near the head rest

  3. Slide down so your head is where your feet normally rest in the passenger seat.

  4. Using a torch, look up towards the back and you should see fig 1 - in the picture I've removed the resistor so you can see the slot that the resistor comes out of.

Fig 1 (Please click on the picture to see a full size image)

  5. Using a cross headed Phillips screw driver, remove the two screws holding  the resistor in place.  DO NOT TOUCH any other wiring/screws down here, some are connected to the air bag and could cause serious injury!

  6. The resistor card should drop out.  If not, give it a quick tug, it'll then come out without any real force.  The card looks like fig 2.  Note the one small line of solder, that is approx 10mm long.

Fig 2  (Please click on the picture to see a full size image)

  7. Using a soldering iron, melt the solder and link the broken line of solder using existing solder on the PCB.  Do NOT add any further solder, only use the pre-existing solder.  If the solder appears to be very discoloured yet complete, your may have a dry link.  If this is the case, use a a small file VERY carefully to remove the layer of tarnish on the solder and immediately around it, on the PCB.

  8. Your work is now almost complete.  Simply reverse this process from 5 to 1 and you will now have an internal blower that works from 1 all the way to 4!

  9. Give yourself a pat on the back and have a cuppa!!
